Wonder Box, an innovative educational material that draws out children's "motivation = exciting spirit

Points of this service
  • Materials that stimulate the five senses and have mathematical underpinnings bring out the "excited spirit!
  • Materials not for children to "study" but for them to "do what they want independently!
  • In the future, we may be able to use digital technology to conduct pseudo "science experiments" at home.

With the spread of the new coronavirus around the world, and the closure of schools, kindergartens, and even nursery schools, services related to home learning are rapidly gaining attention these days. While there are already many famous companies' services, the one newly released in April this year is "Wonderbox", which we will introduce this time. The service consists of an "app that can be used on a tablet or smartphone" and a "kit that is mailed every month," and it is designed not to "support school classes" or "study for entrance exams," but to help children "have fun! I want to do more! It's not just for "supporting school classes" or "studying for exams". This time, BabyTech.jp editorial team interviewed Mr. Kei Kawashima, CEO of WonderLab Inc. who developed "Wonder Box", and asked him about the outline of the service, the development process, and the future development.

Bring out the "wonder" in children with apps and kits

Editor: To get right to it, can you give us an overview of "Wonder Box" and how it differs from the educational services of other companies?

Kawashima: Wonderbox is a so-called STEAM education (editor's note: a term coined by combining the initial letters of five words: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. It is an educational policy that has been attracting attention in recent years), and is not designed to support understanding of school lessons or to help students study for entrance exams like general learning materials. In addition, while most learning materials take the stance of "making children develop study habits (= making them study)" by following a curriculum, Wonder Box aims to "let children work freely on what they are interested in (= making them spontaneous).
