Wonder Box, an innovative educational material that draws out children's "motivation = exciting spirit

Editor: Have you received any comments from the pundits?

Kawashima: One of my teachers, Mr. Yohisa Imoto, a mathematics teacher at Eikoh Gakuen who appeared on the NHK program "Professional Work Styles," was concerned about my ability to produce teaching materials with such rich content every month. (laughs). (laughs) Parents may not be aware of it, but he says that the content is the "foundation for all learning" using mathematical thinking and the five senses, and that it is a teaching material that contributes greatly to opening up the possibilities in children's lives.

Wonderbox is designed to allow children to proceed independently.

EVOLUTION TO MORE ADVANCED STEAM EDUCATION AND GLOBAL EXPANSION IN SIGHT

Editor: Please tell us about the future development of Wonder Box.

Kawashima: I'd like to create educational materials that further draw out children's "intellectual excitement" in a way that crosses STEAM fields. Specifically, in the areas of physics and chemistry, we're thinking of digitally simulating science experiments that would be too dangerous to do at home. We've also received a great response from people living overseas, so we're planning to start with a limited number of countries in the near future, and then gradually expand the target countries. As for the global development of Wonder Labo, the physical kits are limited in terms of distribution, so we would like to aim for development in the area of "intellectual curiosity (= wonder)", not limited to the Wonder Box medium, so that children around the world can enjoy the best experience possible at that time. We hope to provide the world's children with the best experience possible at that time.

The "Wonder Box" program looks simple but is deep

After the interview

When he said, "Children look forward to it so much that they go to the mailbox several times a day," I remembered that I myself used to look forward to the monthly Science supplement from Gakken when I was a child. It wasn't really about learning, but about what I wanted to do, and I feel like that experience was very useful in my later life. In the same way, the Wonder Box may be something that draws out the most important source of motivation, curiosity, and zest for life in children. I have high hopes for the infinite possibilities contained in this small box.
