Colo-puter, an IoT educational toy that combines the analog warmth of wood with the digital smart phone

Editor: This is interesting! Do you need a Wi-Fi environment in the home?

KATO: The specification of the app we're considering now is that it requires a network environment. So Wi-Fi is recommended. If you think about using a smartphone that's no longer in use for Koropyuta, you'd need a Wi-Fi environment to install the app and actually use it.

Yokota: Here's a sample of a picture book you can play with "Koropyuta". The smartphone automatically reads the story out loud, and at the same time, the pictures scroll up little by little on the screen, and "words" such as items and creatures that appear in the story are displayed. For example, on a page that says "Let's go down this road", the word "Michi" appears, and if you roll the "Mi" and "Chi" blocks, you go on to the next page.

Edit: So simple, but this is fun!

You can even create new games and share them with other users!

Yokota: When we release Koropyuta, we're thinking of a system that allows users to create their own original games using the Koropyuta system and then share them on the accompanying app.

Editor: Can I make a game with the application attached to "Koropyuta"?

KATO: No, you can't make a game with Koropyuta or the accompanying app. The idea is for users to program and create their own games. For the Koropyuta app, we're planning to provide a platform called Koropon, where users can share their games with other users. So "Koropyuta" is not a teaching tool for learning programming, but a toy that gives you a chance to learn programming. I think this feature will make "Koropita" much more expandable.

Editor: It's very unique that you can even play games you've made yourself!

Yokota: Some of our engineers share games they've made with the community. We thought, "I'd like to make a game that's useful for child-rearing and children's play! We thought that there might be people who want to make games that are useful for child-rearing and children's play. If people can share their own games with Koropyuta, we think it'll be a good hook to get engineers interested. In fact, the first time we showed this product, the response from engineers was great.

Editor: Do you need advanced programming knowledge to make a game?
