Background to the launch of Amazon Rekognition's People Table

Normally, a graduation album is produced by a team of teachers and parents who work together to produce it over a period of five to six months. A total of 30 hours* are required to complete the album. The main tasks are to select the necessary photos from the thousands of photos taken during the children's time at the school, to count the number of times each child appears in the album in the correct order so that the same number of photos are included, and to make sure that the number of photos is not unbalanced.

Last year, the 'Yes Cheese! Album", the system began offering an automatic person count function that tallies the number of children who appear on each page of the album. This made it possible to produce the album in about half the time compared to the conventional process of creating a draft, but to check the number of appearances in the album as a whole, we had to manually create a list for the number of preschoolers and update the list at the same time each time the photos on each page were replaced. As the number of parent-participation events at Corona Disaster is currently on the decline, parents are more interested in the 'graduation album', which contains precious memories of the school, and the importance of making the number of appearances of each child more 'equal' has increased.

About the industry's first "People Table" *1

In order to ensure an equal number of photos on each page of the album, the number of times a preschooler appears on each page is automatically counted using AWS, and the number of appearances can be checked on the person table in the system. The recognition rate of kindergartners appearing in the album is as high as 95% or more, and a further time reduction of approximately 20%*2 can be expected from the current system through the use of a person count table.

"Cheese! Album" in the future

In our experience, about two thirds of the graduation album production has been teacher-led and one third parent-led. The workload on nursery teachers is still very heavy and parents are also very busy as more and more families are working together. We want to make the "culture" of adults working together to create albums for their children as easy as possible. In the future, we will continue to develop systems from the user's point of view to shorten working hours, and further strengthen our customer support system to ensure that even first-time producers do not make mistakes. Album" in the current fiscal year, we aim to achieve 187% year-on-year growth in the number of groups using the service.
