'The Science of Babies' to Follow the Amazing Development of the First Year of Life on Netflix Feb. 21, 2020

Filmed over a three-year period, Science of Babies is a ground-breaking series that explores just how phenomenal infants' development is during their first year of life through pioneering research by some of the world's best scientists.

Netflix will begin streaming "The Science of Babies," a science-based look at the amazing development of the first year of life, on February 21, 2020. The Japanese version will be available with subtitles.

A scientific look at the dramatic growth that everyone experiences from newborn to toddler, following the growth adventures of 15 families from around the world for three years. Follow the adventures of 15 families from around the world as they grow over the course of three years, as well as the latest research from leading scientists who are unraveling the process of discovery about the infant brain. The film will cover the first steps of infancy, from the first time a baby and his or her parents form a bond, to learning to feed and eat, sleeping through the night, crawling, speaking their first words and discovering the world around them.

During the series, they will also talk about the following research.

  • A study by Rebecca Spencer (University of Massachusetts, Amherst) showing that naps are important for babies' learning.
  • A study by Michael Georgiev (University of Minnesota) that links iron and other micronutrients to memory development in babies.
  • The discovery by Professor Ruth Feldman (Herzliya Academic Center, Israel) that increased secretion of oxytocin, the bonding hormone, can occur not only in mothers who give birth, but also in men.
  • A finding by Professor Susan Lynch (University of California, San Francisco) that babies who live with dogs and cats are less likely to develop asthma and allergies.

Science is always necessary for groundbreaking baby tech to be viable.
