Participating parents with children aged 0-6 years old, as well as pre-parents and pre-moms who are expecting a baby and want to actively use technology such as gadgets, apps, and home appliances in their child-rearing.BabyTech Communityholds a monthly "Discover Parenting Hacks Project - Cross Review for Everyone".

This project aims to find "parenting hacks" for enjoying child-rearing, and community members will share their experiences with various baby tech services. Each time, members who have actually used one baby tech service will post a review of the service on a special website. Afterwards, they will share their impressions and usage of the service in an online roundtable discussion, which will be published as a review article on BabyTech.jp.

The first issue featured theChildcare Quiz Papa Power Test(hereafter referred to as "Papa Power Test"). This service won a special award in the "BabyTech® Award Japan 2020 powered by DNP Dai Nippon Printing".

Community members who have actually used the Papa Power Test reviewed the service in terms of its enjoyment and usefulness (numerical ratings were given on a 5-point scale from a minimum of 1 to a maximum of 5). In addition, Yukie Takahashi, the developer of the service, Tetsuya Nagata, CEO of Papasmile, and community members participated in an online roundtable discussion (hereinafter referred to as "cross review talk"). lightness

reviewerReview scoreComment
Daisuke Inoue5I think the key to the ease is that it is sent on line and that it is one question a day. I guess it depends on what the main communication tool is, but for me it's the line, so I appreciate it.
child born in first half of the year5It's nice and easy to just pop in two or three choices.
Chiba (city)5It is sent on line, so it is easy to join. It is good that there is no sense of coercion.
zucchi-acid5One question each day is just fine.
YOSHIE.5There is no need to DL a new application and it can be completed on line, making it easy to get started.
lying on one's back5You can be passive as you receive the line.

Nagata:Thank you very much for your time today. I would like to begin our cross review talk right away. Now, first of all, all reviewers gave a perfect score of 5 for "ease of use. It was praised for the service's use of LINE, which many people use on a daily basis, the simplicity of receiving only one quiz per day, and the fact that all quizzes are easy to answer with two or three choices of questions.

Takahashi:Thank you very much. I am really glad I used the line.

Nagata:The fact that they don't have to download a new app or log into their browser is still appreciated.

The pace of "one question per day & only on weekdays" was favorable as it was easy to continue!

continuity

reviewerReview scoreComment
Daisuke Inoue5I am rather grateful that I am not forced to continue. However, it seems that there is an attraction that makes you want to continue every day.
child born in first half of the year4It is easy to continue because I only have to answer one question each day. However, if I skip a day because I am too busy, I feel a little lazy because I couldn't answer the question the day before. I wish there was some kind of relief.
Chiba (city)5It is good because the frequency of questions is not too much or too little.
zucchi-acid5It's a line I use often so I don't miss it.
YOSHIE.4
lying on one's back5I like that it is only on weekdays. It would be nice to receive it a little earlier so I can answer during my commute to work.

Nagata:Regarding continuity, some respondents commented that the pace of the questions, one question per day & only on weekdays, made it easy to continue, and that since it is on line, there is no need to worry about missing the questions.

Takahashi:I decided to make the Papa Power Test available only on weekdays from the perspective of how I myself would feel if I were a user of ....... Since I assumed that the users would be new fathers, I imagined that they would receive the questions on the train on their way to work and answer them on the spot. We thought that it might be troublesome to receive the questions on weekends, when they are on vacation. As a result, we decided to limit the quiz to Monday through Friday.

Nagata:It is true that on Saturdays and Sundays, they are likely to be busy with their children or going out for shopping, leisure activities, etc.

Takahashi:I myself touched my phone less frequently on Saturdays and Sundays than on weekdays when I was raising my children.

Nagata:Now, some commented that "skipping a day lowers motivation to continue" and "if the questions were given a little earlier, I could answer them during my commute to work. ...... It seems that "keeping players motivated" is a common issue for this type of learning app. One English language app provides a remedy that allows players to keep up their daily study record even if their busy schedule interrupts their daily study record by studying later for a day or two.

Takahashi:It is difficult to set up on LINE, but if the "Papa Power Test" is ever made into an application, we would like to incorporate such a function to further enhance the gaming experience. It would also be interesting to have a system whereby users can accumulate points by continuing to play.

The evaluation seems to have been largely divided according to "the reviewer's knowledge of childcare"!

knowledge enhancement

reviewerReview scoreComment
Daisuke Inoue5I thought it would be interesting to see some of the sometimes trick questions and some of the more thought-provoking ones.
child born in first half of the year5There is a lot of knowledge that I already know, but I didn't know! so I like the fact that I can cover all aspects of childcare.
Chiba (city)3Since much of the content is commonplace if you are raising a child, it is more a confirmation of knowledge and a confidence builder for dads than a knowledge booster.
zucchi-acid4You will acquire not only knowledge, but also a child-rearing mindset to face your child.
YOSHIE.3If you are a mom with childcare experience, you know a lot, but if you are a dad, I thought it would be a great way to improve your knowledge.
lying on one's back3Many of the problems may be too easy for those who have read child care books.

Nagata:As for the question of whether or not the course was effective in increasing knowledge, my impression was that the opinions were divided between those who said it was good for gaining knowledge in a broad, shallow, and comprehensive mannerh and those who said the questions were too easy and that many of the contents were already known to begin with.

Takahashi:Since the aim of the "Papa Power Test" is to provide the basic knowledge necessary for raising a child between the ages of 0 and 1.5 years old, we are glad to see the review that the knowledge is comprehensive. In terms of ......, which had a lot of content that I already knew, the Papa Power Test is designed to be used by new fathers, so we have enhanced the basic knowledge. Therefore, we hope that moms and dads who have experience in childcare will use it to reconfirm their knowledge. However, the difficulty level of the quizzes increases in the latter half of the quiz, and we have received feedback that the quizzes on emergency lifesaving are "There were many things I didn't know! We have received feedback that "I didn't know a lot of things!

Nagata:Some people commented that I think the trick question is really well done ....... Actually, even though I have done it before, I couldn't answer all the questions correctly when I tried this time.

Takahashi:I often get comments like, "I read the explanations and they make sense, but the trick questions got to me." The reviewer's comment, "It will help boost dads' self-confidence," is a new perspective. We would be very happy if the Papa Power Test can make child-rearing a little more appealing to you.

Chiba:My husband was confident while doing the Papa Power Test, saying, "I've done quite a bit of child-rearing, haven't I? ...... When he can answer correctly in the quiz, he can objectively feel that he is gaining knowledge about child-rearing.

Nagata:In addition to knowledge, some commented that they were now prepared to face their children. Is this because of the rich content of the quiz explanations, etc., which touched on children's feelings?

Takahashi:In the quiz explanations, we were conscious of writing in a way that puts the child at the center, rather than focusing only on adult conveniences and conveniences. We believe that when parents and children deepen their understanding in this way, parenting will become more enjoyable. ......

Solving quizzes gives a little sense of accomplishment each day!

pleasure

reviewerReview scoreComment
Daisuke Inoue5It seems to be a little essence of everyday life.
child born in first half of the year4We are also encouraged by the fact that they inform us of the results once a week.
Chiba (city)4
zucchi-acid4I enjoy having feedback on correct and incorrect answers.
YOSHIE.4
lying on one's back4The characters are good. It is a monotonous task of answering quizzes every day, so you might get bored.

Nagata:Reviews related to "enjoyment" included comments such as, "It's a bit of a daily pick-me-up," "It's encouraging to receive a summary of the week's events," and "The characters are good."

Takahashi:We decided on the contents of the weekend report while thinking about what kind of data we could send them to make them happy, such as "how many quizzes were solved" and "what was the percentage of correct answers. It is quite time-consuming to set up on line, but when I receive reviews like this, I feel that it was worth doing. In fact, those of you with whom I have a personal connection have sent me comments like, "I got all the questions right this week!" I've received messages like, "How many questions did you get wrong this week ......," so it seems that you are enjoying the puzzles. I am also grateful that Musaji, the commentator, is also very popular.

Nagata:Like myself, I can't read thick parenting books, so I want to have fun gaining parenting knowledge through quizzes like this.

Chiba:When I showed my husband the parenting encyclopedia I had bought him, his response was, "I'm willing to read it, but not me!" I can't read it! In that respect, we agreed that the Papa Power Test could be done easily on line.

Takahashi:My husband used to say that he wanted to learn more about childcare, but he was busy every day and didn't know where to get the knowledge, so he just left it at that. ...... I still think it was a good idea to incorporate the game aspect of quizzing them on necessary child-rearing knowledge.

There is a great benefit in "visualizing the difference in parenting knowledge between fathers and mothers."

Married couples talking about it

reviewerReview scoreComment
Daisuke Inoue4I think I am becoming more sympathetic to the difficulties that your wife is going through.
child born in first half of the year2I didn't talk about it much because I knew most of the knowledge. Also, I answered the questions in the morning (the questions come in after work) and met my wife at night, so I guess I forgot what kind of questions they were in the first place.
Chiba (city)4My husband reports to me that he made a mistake, so I can see the difference between what is normal in my mind and what my husband knows, and I am less frustrated with "Why don't you understand...? Of course, it also serves as an opportunity for casual conversation.
zucchi-acid3When synchronized with actual childcare, we sometimes talk about how such content was in the Papa Power Test.
YOSHIE.4The knowledge gap between dad and mom is now clear! LOL!
lying on one's back3Heh! I had to share what I was getting at.

Nagata:The evaluation of whether or not the couple could talk about the topic was lower than the other items. Typical comments included, "I didn't talk about it because I knew most of the contents. On the other hand, there were many positive comments despite the low scores.

Takahashi:The "Dad Power Test" is targeted at new dads, so senior dads raising their second child may know a lot about it. In addition, moms often tell us that it is too easy.

Chiba:As I mentioned in my review, I am less frustrated than before because I can see the gap in knowledge between husband and wife by my husband telling me the questions he got wrong in the "Papa Power Test" and I feel that he couldn't do it because he didn't know before .......

Takahashi:During the development stage, we asked several moms, "What would you like to tell dad?" The number one answer was, "When you put underwear on your baby, make sure the tag is on the outside. This is exactly what you have to know to do.

Nagata:It is difficult for even married couples to know what this person knows and what he/she does not know about childcare. So it is really wonderful to have a system where the lack of knowledge is revealed through the quiz, and to have a follow-up to improve the knowledge.

Takahashi:During the development of the Papa Power Test, I collected a great deal of reference material, and while there is a wealth of information on child-rearing for mothers, I felt that there is still a lack of information on child-rearing for fathers. I think this service will be of help in this area.

Nagata:For those who are raising children, the quiz matches their real-life situation, and this is sometimes a topic of conversation for the couple.

Takahashi:I am very happy to be able to provide you with information that is useful in actual child-rearing situations. I was also thinking about the question, "Should I make my child wear socks indoors?" I was just thinking "Should I make my child wear socks indoors?

Some commented, "It gave me a chance to rethink child rearing," and "Highly recommended for first-time dads."

Did you feel any change in yourself before and after taking the Papa Power Test?

reviewerComment
Daisuke InoueWork is hard. Raising children and doing housework are also hard. I hope that you now understand that the difficulties are the same, just of a different kind.
child born in first half of the yearIt was an opportunity to relearn some basic knowledge. I strongly introduced it to my pre-dad friends, as I knew very little about it before my first child.
Chiba (city)Conversations with her husband regarding childcare have increased.
zucchi-acidEvery morning it gives me a chance to think about childcare.
YOSHIE.I think the quiz has given me more opportunities to talk with my dad about childcare:)
lying on one's backI couldn't think of anything in particular.

Nagata:The changes included: "I recommended the program to pre-dads because it provided them with basic child-rearing knowledge," and "I found myself thinking more about child-rearing and having more conversations with my husband and wife."

Takahashi:We have received feedback from couples who have finished raising their children that doing the Papa Power Test has brought back memories of raising their children and increased their conversations with their spouses. ......

Nagata:It still seems to be a great opportunity for couples to talk about it. I was too busy raising a newborn to one year old to remember, but doing the Papa Power Test helped me remember many things as a couple. I also often recommend the Papa Power Test to pre-dads and new fathers I meet through work. Some of them have already started.

Some expect it to become an indispensable tool for new fathers, and others would love to see a version after the age of one!

What are your expectations for the future of the Papa Power Test?

reviewerComment
Daisuke InoueI hope that more and more people will take the certification test and that it will become a recommended tool for all future fathers.
child born in first half of the yearI hope you will continue to make it as easy as you have in the past, and I look forward to the certification test after the age of one!
Chiba (city)I hope many people will know about it.
zucchi-acidI know it must be tough every day, but I look forward to seeing more in the future.
YOSHIE.
lying on one's backIf I can do something together with my wife and dad friends instead of alone, I can keep going and do my best.

Nagata:There are a variety of comments, but there are some pretty big expectations.

Takahashi:One commenter said, "I hope it will become a tool that will always be recommended to would-be fathers," and I really hope that's what we're aiming for.

Nagata:It would be great if they were handed out at the local government daddy classes...I'm expecting a daddy skills test after the age of one...how about that one?

Takahashi:I use the terms "child-rearing" and "parenting" separately, and I believe that what we are dealing with in the Papa Power Test is "child-rearing. I think of "child-rearing" as bringing up a child from the age of 0 to 1.5 years old to the point where the basic human functions of eating, walking, running, and talking are in place, and "child-rearing" as developing "emotional and social skills" after that.

In other words, "parenting" is becoming more complex, and we are entering an area where it is difficult to know what the correct answer is. If we were to create a quiz, we would think carefully about it, including whether or not a simple quiz format would be appropriate.

Nagata:It is true that when it comes to "child-rearing," the child's individuality has an impact, and each family has its own way of thinking, so it is difficult to say that this is the correct answer.

Takahashi:In fact, even for the Papa Power Test, we had a lot of trouble creating a quiz for the age range of 1 to 1.5 years old, which is the borderline between "child-rearing" and "child-rearing". We only quizzed those that we could be sure were the correct answers, and followed up with explanations where there seemed to be differences of opinion.

Nagata:Throughout the entire Papa Power Test, you have taken care not to take the stance of imposing the correct answer. Takahashi: That's right. We hope that while you enjoy the test, it will help you and your spouse think about child-rearing and bring a smile to your faces.
