- The following is content from the press release -
(Headquarters: Nishi-ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa; hereinafter "Nissan") held the "Iruyo Concept Model Presentation" on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at the Nissan Hall of Nissan Global Headquarters. (headquartered in Chuo-ku, Osaka; hereinafter referred to as "Akachan Honpo"), and unveiled for the first time the "INTELLIGENT PUPPET Iruyo," a robot developed to help parents and children drive safely and securely when they are alone together. In addition, Ryota Yamasato of the Nankai Candies was invited as the promotion manager of Iruyo, and demonstrated Iruyo inside a Nissan LUKES car.
ILEJO solves the "child seat barrier" that arises when driving with only the driver and child!
Mr. Masaaki Kanda, Managing Executive Officer of Nissan, and Ms. Motomi Taniguchi, Director and Executive Officer of Akachan Honpo, took the stage at the beginning of the session to give a presentation on Iluyo.
Mr. Taniguchi of Akachan Honpo explained about the concerns of parents driving alone with their babies, which was the background for the development of Iruyo. He explained about the survey conducted jointly by the two companies: "More than 80% of the respondents answered that they could not give their babies a rest when they cried, as one of the problems they had when driving alone with their babies. In addition, more than 90% of the respondents answered that they were worried about not being able to see their baby due to the rear-facing child seat," he said. We wanted to solve this problem with Nissan," he said, referring to the background behind the development of the Il-Yo.
Mr. Kanda of Nissan mentioned that among the concerns of mothers and fathers that were revealed in the survey results, "there is a gap that we call the 'car seat barrier. We have planned and developed a new concept model robot to solve these problems faced by parents and children. We were inspired by a variety of advanced technologies, including the sensing technology Nissan uses in its vehicles, and conducted demonstration tests in cooperation with the Kitasato University School of Medicine and Hygiene. He then presented Il-Yo for the first time together with Taniguchi.
Inspired by Nissan's sensing technology, the ILE-YO system consists of two robots: ILE-YO, which is installed next to the child seat in the backseat, and BABY-IL-YO, which is installed in the drink holder next to the driver's seat. When the driver says certain words to Baby Iruyo, which is located near the driver's seat, Iruyo in the back seat is activated. Baby Iruyo in the backseat will then start waving its hands and saying "I'm here, I'm here, I'm here, I'm here" to baby in the car seat. The camera on the Iluyo recognizes the baby's facial expressions and transmits them to the Baby Iluyo. By opening and closing Baby Iruyo's eyes, parents can tell if their baby is sleeping or not. Cute! It's amazing how far technology has come!"
Mr. Yamasato appeared as the Il-Yo advertising manager! Experiencing the functions of Iruyo, he said, "It's so cute! It's amazing how technology has evolved!"
Mr. Yamasato, the head of the Iruyo Advertising Department, appeared in a red turtleneck to match the color of the Iruyo as he greeted the audience. When asked for his thoughts on the Illyo immediately, he replied, "It's adorable, I wish I had met it when I was actually driving around with my own children, as I had so many problems with them." He commented. When Kanda informed him that the voices of ordinary moms and dads had been reflected in the development of the car, Mr. Yamasato was surprised and said, "To reflect the voices of moms and dads in the development of the car, we asked the general public to participate in the demonstration test, and while listening to their feedback, we adjusted the functions of the iljo and other features. I can't wait to see it (while touching the Iruyo). (I can't wait to experience it. I can't wait to experience it (while touching the Illyo).
Afterwards, Mr. Yamasato got into a Nissan "Luke's" prepared on stage to experience how the Iruyo installed in the car actually functions. The movement of the iluyo changed depending on the words spoken, with Mr. Yamasato saying, "Here I am! I'm here! and "I'm here!" Mr. Yamasato then said to the moving Iruyo, "It works even if I'm driving normally and don't change my body position. It must be nice for the baby to feel that you are waving to him." He commented.
Next, Mr. Yamasato experienced the technology of the iruyo, which operates in time with the song. Seeing the iruyo move to the rhythm of "Donguri korokoro" sung by Mr. Yamasato, he commented, "It's so cute how it moves to the rhythm! I think I could practice singing with my child with the iluyo. I think children would feel safe and have fun because it's their father and mother's voice. It's amazing how technology has evolved! He was able to experience the usefulness of the Iruyo.
Mr. Yamasato addresses the concerns of moms and dads! A baby approaching her, she says, "Iruyo's got the baby's heart."
For the talk session that followed, we moved to a space that looked like a kids' space, where a total of six pairs of moms and dads and their babies, who helped in the development of the product, also took the stage. Mr. Yamasato served as an interviewer, listening to the real feelings and concerns of the moms and dads. A stuffed doll of Iruyo wearing glasses that looked just like Ms. Yamasato was also prepared on stage, and she asked Iruyo, who looked just like her, "Does the fact that you wear red glasses mean you are my alter ego? It's cute. It expresses my prettiness. It makes me feel closer to you! Mr. Yamasato couldn't help but smile. The talk session began in a friendly atmosphere. Then, one of the babies on the stage approached Ms. Yamasato. She was hugging Iruyo, who looked just like Yamasato-san, and seemed to be at ease with her.
One mother said, "When I drive alone with my child, my biggest concern is that I can't see my child because the car seat is rear-facing." When she told him, Ms. Yamasato said, "I can't see the baby's expression, and I worry when the baby cries or is silent. Iruyo is revolutionary because it soothes such children. She sympathized with the worries of mothers and fathers.
In addition, during the meeting, one baby came to Mr. Yamasato. Yamasato gently asked the baby, "Do you want to sit down?" and the baby nodded. I've made a new friend! and then she held the baby in her arms, and the talk session proceeded in a friendly atmosphere.
At the end of the talk session, Mr. Yamasato was all smiles as he commented, "I am looking forward to the development of various technologies that will allow moms and dads to enjoy driving to various places in the future, and I am excited that I will be able to change the future in various ways. The event ended with a great success.
