When asked what they do for Setsubun at home, the most common answer was "eat 'e' veggies (78.52%)", followed by "stir-frying (72.59%)" and "eating 'em (65.93%)". The majority of respondents tended to do something related to Setsubun at home, with only about 3% saying they did nothing in particular.

3. The difference between Setsubun in the past and now "In the past, people didn't have the custom of eating Ewaimaki".

When we asked about the differences between when they were children and now, they replied, "In the past, there was no custom of eating 'E⽅-Maki'. When asked what was different about the festival nowadays compared to when they were children, they replied: "In the past, 'Ewaimaki' was a uniquely Kansai culture, not so well known elsewhere and bought at local sushi restaurants. But now it's become more popular and you can buy it in the Kanto area and there are many different types of 'Ewa-Maki' such as seafood rolls and it's easy to buy in convenience stores. It depends on where you are but when I was a kid I didn't even know there was such a thing. Many people answered that they did not used to eat Ebikomaki before. On the other hand, about 80% of respondents answered that they "eat the 'e' direction" in the previous question, which shows that the culture of 'e' direction has become more popular over the past few years.

The second most common response was regarding the use of minced meat for the meal, "We use rolled up newspaper as a substitute for the minced meat as we know that minced meat is dangerous for young children as it can get stuck in their throats. "When we were children we used to spread the minced meat properly, but now we spread peanuts in the shell instead of minced meat because of the news about deaths caused by feeding minced meat. When I was a child, my grandmother used to sow roasted macronutrients and we used to eat as many as we could during the year, but now I am a mother and when I sow macronutrients at home, I sow individually wrapped macronutrients to make it easier to clean up. It seems that people tend to throw alternative or individually wrapped foods instead of macronutrients to prevent aspiration.
