Currently, nursery schools and child care centers that take care of infants and toddlers keep a handwritten record of what position they have been in, as well as a breath check and confirmation of back sleeping by a child care worker at five-minute intervals for 0-year-olds, in order to prevent sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
In addition to reducing the workload by semi-automating the childcare worker's checking of the child's body position from conventional handwritten records to simply pressing a confirmation button on the tablet, the system also notifies the childcare worker with an audible alert on the tablet when the child is in danger of falling asleep on his or her back.
The double-checking system, using both human and equipment, is an attempt to reduce the time and effort required and to make the process more secure.
