Daiwa Tsushin releases Face Roll Call, an AI face recognition anti-leaving system, newly developed to prevent kindergartners from being left behind on buses using AI face recognition terminals.

- The following is content from the press release -

(Headquarters: Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture; President: Hidenari Iwamoto) has released "Face Roll Call," a system that uses face recognition terminals to prevent accidents involving children left behind on kindergarten buses.

In response to the recent accidents involving children left behind on buses commuting to kindergartens and nursery schools, there has been a nationwide call for a review of safety measures. We have developed a system to prevent accidents caused by human error from occurring again.

Face Roll Call is a system in which an AI face recognition terminal is installed at the end of the bus, and when the bus engine key is turned off, an alarm sounds automatically inside the bus. By requiring the driver to go to the back of the bus to stop the alarm, the system encourages the driver to make it a habit to perform in-vehicle inspections. For example, it is impossible for a child who has been left in the bus to stop the alarm, and the driver must go to the back of the bus to stop the alarm. Face Roll Call is an anti-leaving system using face recognition terminals that combines digital technology with actual visual inspection work to prevent accidents that could occur if a child is left unattended.

■System Overview
(1) Facial recognition terminals will be installed in the last section of the bus
(2) Register the bus driver's face in the facial recognition terminal.
(3) When the bus engine key is turned OFF after the pick-up is completed, an alarm sound is played inside the bus.
(4) The alarm sounds stop when a registered driver holds his/her face over the face recognition terminal installed at the end of the bus.

According to the government's announcement, from April 2023, regardless of who is driving or riding the bus, it will be mandatory to check the whereabouts of children by conducting a roll call when they get on and off the bus, and to install safety devices to prevent children from being left behind in approximately 44,000 buses used by day-care centers, kindergartens, and certified child care centers nationwide. The law also mandates the installation of safety devices to prevent children from being left behind in day-care centers, kindergartens, and certified kindergartens.
This system can be installed in any pick-up and drop-off vehicles, including kindergarten and nursery school buses and school buses, and Daiwa Communication plans to provide integrated installation services, from device supply to installation and maintenance services.
Daiwa Communication will continue to develop various solutions to realize Safe City, a future city where everyone can live safely, securely, and conveniently using technology.
