From the Editor

Namco Bandai Group's Namco Bandai Will has introduced the services of incluvox, a video media for gifted and developmentally disabled supporters, which passed the first screening of BTA2022.

Let's take a look at the details from the press release.

- The following is content from the press release -

-All group members can respond to reasonable accommodation under the revised Law on Elimination of Discrimination.

(Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative: Dai Akahira), a special subsidiary of the BANDAI NAMCO Group, will introduce "Incluvox," a video media for gifted and developmentally disabled supporters, to NAMCO BANDAI Will Inc. (Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative: Shuji Otsu), a special subsidiary of the NAMCO BANDAI Group, will introduce Inklevox on September 1, 2022. The program will be available not only at the special-purpose subsidiary, but also partially within the Group. The entire Group will increase its "knowledge of people with developmental disabilities and unique talents" and begin working toward an environment in which innovative human resources can work comfortably by accepting diverse opinions and ideas through the promotion of diversity and inclusion.

Seiko Fujisawa, Managing Director, NAMCO BANDAI Will Inc.
NAMCO BANDAI Will was established in 2006 as a special subsidiary of the NAMCO BANDAI Group. (As of April 2022, the number of employees is 161, including 116 employees with disabilities.)
The BANDAI NAMCO Group considers the "realization of a respectful work environment" to be one of the materialities (key issues) of its sustainability activities. We believe that one way to realize a work environment that respects and recognizes the individuality of each employee and takes advantage of their good points is to expand the Group-wide environment in which employees with disabilities, such as ours, can work together.
Currently, we often feel that a lack of knowledge and experience is hindering the creation of an environment where people with outstanding abilities do not get opportunities to play an active role because they need consideration, or do not know what kind of consideration is necessary in the first place, etc. We have been focusing on increasing knowledge throughout the group, especially this year.
It was during this time that I came across incluvox, which is run by Mr. Akahira. The site has a wide range of information, an unbiased viewpoint, easy-to-see video editing, and a large amount of material. I don't think there is any other site that has such a wide range of information.
Through incluvox, we hope to increase the number of Group employees who have a deep understanding of disabilities.

(1) Face-to-face training for developmental disabilities is not effective.
Since the Developmental Disabilities Support Act of 2004, childcare providers and educators have been responsible for improving their knowledge of developmental disabilities, and "face-to-face training" has been provided. However, in the 2010s, frequent articles began to appear stating that educators were not adequately addressing developmental disabilities and that face-to-face training was ineffective. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology responded that this was an "urgent issue," and in July 2022, the so-called "Gifted Support" expert panel specified that "video content is appropriate for educator training.

(2) Japan loses 2.3 trillion yen due to underutilization of human resources with developmental disabilities
In other countries, developmental disabilities are being used as innovative human resources by enhancing the knowledge of peripheral employees. In Japan, developmental disabilities are increasing at special-purpose subsidiaries, but employees' knowledge of developmental disabilities has not yet improved, and they are not being effectively utilized in general employment. Increasing knowledge of developmental disabilities within companies will promote innovation and improve business performance.

We are also able to respond to the 2024 "mandatory provision of reasonable accommodation" under the revised Law on Elimination of Discrimination.
incluvox improves developmental literacy efficiently through skimming TV-quality videos.

incluvox is available for multimedia viewing

Incluvox launched its service in January 2022 and has been used by approximately 4,000 people. In addition to 300 "1-minute videos showing support methods" that can be used like a dictionary, the service offers 2 "10-minute videos showing expertise, the latest information, etc." per week. Parents, educators, and businesspersons who are concerned about human resource utilization and reasonable accommodation are able to watch the videos in their spare time "in a short time, while listening, and while watching", which are "more efficient, effective, and less expensive" than face-to-face training.
