Tokyo to subsidize use of babysitters, 5 billion yen in proposed FY2006 budget

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government plans to begin subsidizing the use of babysitters in FY2018 as a new measure for children on waiting lists. The upper limit is 280,000 yen per month. The government will allocate 5 billion yen for 1,500 babysitters in the draft budget for fiscal year 2006.

The babysitter subsidy is for children aged 0 to 2 years old, and since the majority of the 8,586 children waiting for a babysitter in Tokyo as of April 2005 were under 1 year old, the program will provide more generous support for this age group. Of the estimated monthly babysitter fee of 320,000 yen in a standard case, up to 280,000 yen will be subsidized. The monthly user fee will be 40,000 yen, the same level as the average fee for a licensed daycare center.

It is hard enough to buy the treatment of nursery school workers and the system to set up a nursery school, so I think that we can get rid of the urgent situation by providing money for now, and buy time to see how the social system can be changed.
