Codomon to Immediately Consolidate Information on Infectious Diseases of Preschool Children through the Nation's First "Automated Childcare ICT Linkage" - Participation in Gunma Prefecture's "Data Linkage Project for Absence Notification (Information on Infectious Diseases)" to Support Early Implementation of Countermeasures to Combat Infectious Diseases

- The following is content from the press release -

(Head office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Yoshinori Koike), provider of the "CoDMON" ICT service for childcare and educational facilities, announces its participation in the "Data Linkage Project for Absence Notification (Infectious Disease Information)" in the education and childcare field being implemented by Gunma Prefecture (prefectural government address: Maebashi City; Governor: Kazuta Yamamoto). (located in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture; Governor: Hajime Yamamoto) in the field of education and childcare, and will begin preliminary trial operations at three childcare facilities in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture, on November 4, 2025.

This project is the first in Japan for automatic collaboration in childcare ICT, aiming to (1) reduce the input burden of childcare facility personnel, and (2) promote the "School Absenteeism and Infectious Disease System" operated by the Japan School Health Foundation and early infection control measures.

This project was adopted by the Cabinet Secretariat's Council for Digital Administrative and Financial Reform under its "New Local Economy and Living Environment Creation Grant (Digital Implementation Type TYPES)" program, which aims to support initiatives that use digital technology to help solve local problems and improve local attractiveness.

Background of Project Implementation

It is recommended by the government that information on infectious disease cases among children be entered into the "School Absenteeism and Infectious Disease Information System" as a form of infectious disease surveillance to identify infectious disease outbreaks at an early stage. The system enables real-time monitoring of local infectious disease outbreaks, and information can be shared with schools, daycare centers, the Board of Education, the section in charge of childcare, school doctors, and public health centers.

Until now, absenteeism and infectious disease information had to be entered by staff at childcare facilities into the childcare ICT and school absenteeism and infectious disease information systems, respectively. This required manual entry of the same information multiple times, which was a heavy workload. In addition, manually inputting data again entailed the risk of inaccurate information transmission due to input errors. In addition, the registration and use of the system for information on absenteeism and infectious diseases in schools has not progressed due to the burden placed on the staff of childcare facilities.

In order to resolve these issues, this project will be implemented.

Business Overview

CoDMON, an ICT service for childcare and educational facilities, includes the Codomon Contact Book application for parents. Parents can use this app to receive communications from daycare centers, etc., and to notify them of their child's attendance. In addition, information on the child's physical condition, symptoms, and diagnosis of infectious diseases can be entered into the app.

In this project, absence notification, symptoms, and infectious disease-related information entered into the application by parents/guardians will be sent as statistical data to the "School Absenteeism and Infectious Disease Information System". This not only reduces the workload of manual input, but also decreases the risk of input errors. As a result, more accurate information on infectious diseases can be used to take countermeasures at an early stage.

Specifically, the linkage eliminates the need for staff at childcare facilities to manually enter the number of symptoms and illnesses of all children in the "School Absenteeism and Infectious Disease Information System," one line per day and per class, every day (even if no sick days are required, the number "zero" must be entered).

Effects of Implementing Data Linkage

  • Reduces the burden of manually entering attendance and infectious disease information by childcare facility staff
  • Reduce input errors associated with manual entry of absence and infectious disease information
  • Childcare staff who have avoided entering information into the "School Absenteeism and Infectious Disease Information System" due to the complexity of the system will be able to enter information more easily.
  • Increased volume of information as "School Absenteeism and Infectious Disease Information System
  • More accurate information on the status of infectious diseases in children is gathered and used for national and regional infectious disease control
