~Improved battery life and service life, and easier to use with a design that is more tailored to the childcare field.

(Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Yasuyuki Toki; hereinafter "Unifa"), which solves social issues related to childcare and child rearing through the power of technology, announces that it will start offering a "new type of sensor" for "Lucumi Noon Sleep Check" in June 2025.
Background
According to the "Summary of Accident Reports in Childcare and Education Facilities*1" published by the Child and Family Affairs Agency, fatal accidents in childcare facilities occur every year and have not yet reached zero. It is reported that fatal accidents are particularly common during nap time. Therefore, in order to prevent accidents that occur during nap time, daycare facilities are required to check infants' body orientation and breathing every five minutes or so, and to fill out a form. The high tension of watching over a child's life, and the fact that in some facilities the work is done by hand in a darkened room, places a high mental and physical burden on the caregivers.
The "LUCUMY Sleep Check" uses a sensor attached to the infant's chest to detect body movements, and a dedicated app automatically records the body orientation with arrows on a checklist. The quality of monitoring is enhanced by double-checking with the caregiver's visual observation.
Thanks to this, it is now in use at daycare facilities throughout Japan and has the largest market share in the industry (according to a Deloitte Tohmatsu MIC Economic Research Institute survey *2). With the full-fledged implementation of the "Anyone-can-go system for children," any child between the ages of 6 months and 3 years can use daycare facilities, and it is expected that it will become increasingly important to monitor the safety and security of children during their nap time.
By launching the new sensor, which offers even greater convenience for caregivers, we hope to provide an environment in which more infants and toddlers can be safely and securely monitored.
The "Lukumi Noon Sleep Check" is listed in the Digital Agency's "Digital Localization Service Catalog (Winter 2024 Edition)*3" as the only sensor to check for noon sleep.

Features of the new sensor

Battery life is approximately doubled.
- The battery life has been doubled from approximately 4 weeks to approximately 8 weeks by "improving power consumption" and "reviewing the internal structure" as well as by "incorporating a power on/off function.
(*Theoretical values based on a temperature of 25°C and 4 hours of use per day)
(2) Service life is 4 years instead of 3 years.
- Registered as a general medical device (notification number: 10B2X00011000011)
- The service life was previously 36 months, but has been increased to 48 months by improving the strength of the housing materials.
(3) Easier to use with a design that is more closely aligned with the childcare site
- The "battery cover" and "screws" are designed to be difficult to detach from the main unit, preventing parts from being lost.
- The power on/off status and battery level can now be checked using the "Lamp Flashing Status" function.
- The use of highly durable "polycarbonate" for the sensor cover has increased its strength.
3. patents

Lukumi Noon Sleep Check is a system that enables nursery school teachers to efficiently check the sleeping posture of children by displaying their sleeping posture on a tablet at once during their nap. Patent No. 6391858)
*This product is not a device to be used for the prevention of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) or evaluation of sleep disorders (sleep apnea, etc.). The condition of the infant should not be judged solely on the basis of body movement information from this product, but should always be confirmed by a childcare worker.
*Delay in noticing abnormalities in the infant's condition may lead to serious health problems (serious injury or death). If the infant's skin develops hypersensitivity symptoms such as redness or rash due to contact with this product, discontinue use and consult a physician.
*Never disassemble, repair, or modify the product.
4. about No.1 market share in the industry

In the "MIC IT Report Monthly" published by Deloitte Tohmatsu MIC (October 2023 issue), "Comparative Analysis of Introduction Results of Leading Vendors in the Noon Sleep Check Sensor Market (https://mic-r.co.jp/micit/2023/)", "Lukumi Noon Sleep Check" was ranked No. 1 in terms of the number of sensors shipped, the cumulative number of children using the product, and the cumulative number of facilities introducing the product in FY2022. In the "MIC IT Report Monthly" (October 2023 issue) published by MIC (), we have obtained the No. 1 market share in terms of the number of sensors shipped, the cumulative number of children using the sensors, and the cumulative number of facilities introducing the sensors in fiscal year 2022.
Unifa will continue its efforts to further promote and expand the "Lukumi Noon Sleep Check" to ensure the safety and security of children throughout Japan.
5. efforts to prevent accidents during nap time
In order to strengthen our efforts to prevent accidents during nap time at daycare facilities, Unifa conducts an annual "Awareness Campaign for Preventing Accidents During Nap Time" starting in April, a time when many new children are enrolled in daycare facilities.
According to the Child and Family Agency's "Summary of Accident Reports in Child Care and Education Facilities*1," fatal accidents at daycare facilities are on the decline, but they continue to occur, and approximately 70% of these accidents occur during nap time. In addition, the accident rate is particularly high for new children who have been enrolled in preschool for less than a month, making safety measures during nap time one of the most important issues for daycare facilities.
For this reason, Unifa is reiterating to childcare facilities the importance of preventing accidents and the occurrence of nocturnal sleep accidents, as well as informing them of the correct use of the "Lukumi Noon Sleep Check". Specifically, all childcare facilities that use the Lucumi system are informed of the correct installation of the sensor, the need to double-check the sensor and the childcare worker's visual inspection, the need to promptly change positions when a child falls asleep on his/her stomach, and the need to quickly check the status of the child when an alert is received.

6. Business Manager's Comment

With the launch of the new Lucumi Noon Sleep Check sensor, we have made further advancements aimed at improving safety and convenience in the childcare setting. In developing the new sensor, we focused on extending the battery life and improving the service life of the sensor so that caregivers can use it with peace of mind.
The Company has obtained a patent for the sensor portion of "Lucumi Noon Sleep Check" and the tablet portion on which the application is installed (Method Patent No. 6391858).
The fact that "Lukumi Noon Sleep Check" has the No.1 market share in the market survey of nocturnal sleep check sensors is proof that our product has been highly evaluated for its ability to efficiently check the sleeping posture of preschool children and that our product is trusted by many daycare facilities. We will continue our efforts to promote and expand the use of "Lukumi Noon Sleep Check" to protect the safety and security of children throughout Japan.
