Episodes of "too late" and "too early" preparation for entering elementary school!

Preparing a child for elementary school is one of the biggest events for parents.

However, many people actually have trouble with the timing, such as "I should have prepared earlier," "I made a mistake when I rushed to buy something," or "On the contrary, some items were no longer needed because I bought them too early.

Therefore, in collaboration with Murase & Co., we conducted a survey on "Preparation for Elementary School Entrance" among 127 men and women nationwide who responded in a preliminary survey that they have children between elementary and high school age.

18.9% experienced "early" and 15.7% experienced "late".

First, we asked if there were any experiences in preparing for children's entry into elementary school that they felt were either too early or too late to start.

A total of 18.9% of the respondents reported that they had experienced early and 15.7% said they had experienced late.

We asked them why they thought it was too early to start, and here are some of the reasons.

Why did you think it was too early to start?

I bought it even though I have the school's designation. (40s, male)
(40's, female) "I started in the middle of the school year, but I had to buy some things that I didn't have to buy because they were provided by the school. (40s, female)
I've been looking for a new school bag, and new things have been coming out. (40s, female)
I was troubled by the fact that my child started saying at the last minute that she wanted this bag for her tools. (50s, female).
I was able to receive a lot of gifts from my relatives. (50s, male)

There were also notable cases where people felt that starting preparations for school entrance too early resulted in "waste" due to overlap with designated items, changes in the child's preferences, or the introduction of new products.

On the other hand, we asked them why they thought it was too late to start, and here are some of the reasons.

Why did you think it was too late to start?

I was in a hurry at the last minute. (30s, male)
I thought it would be better to have it all at once, so I put it off. (40s, male)
I couldn't choose many school bags. (40s, male)
Name writing. I tried to put it all together before entering school, but there were too many and it was more last minute than I expected. (40s, female)
I thought it would be okay to order uniforms at the last minute because my child's body shape would change, but I ordered them in time for the entrance ceremony. I was disappointed that I could not participate in the entrance ceremony. (50s, female)

As a result of delayed preparations, we have seen some failures, such as running out of items, facing fewer choices and an increased workload, and not being able to make it in time for the entrance ceremony.

Preparing for elementary school enrollment, 20% in total, "has taken longer than expected."

We then asked if there were any "things that took longer or less time than expected" in preparing for the start of elementary school.

A total of 20.5% of respondents indicated that it has taken longer than expected, and a total of 18.8% indicated that it has taken less time than expected.

I asked why it took longer than expected, and here are some of the reasons.

Preparing for elementary school, why did it take longer than expected?

I took longer than I expected to name them, though it was due to my own habit of putting things off. (40s, female)
There were many handmade items such as lesson bags. (40s, female)
I had a hard time naming the math set, but it took me longer than I thought it would. (40s, female)
...I found out later that I needed something. (50s, female)
Sometimes when I went to a store, they didn't have what I wanted, so I had to go to several different stores. (50s, female).

Many said that the burden of putting off and making things by hand, naming details, adding necessary items, and dealing with out-of-stock items took up more time than they had imagined.

On the other hand, we asked them why it took less time than expected, and here are some of the reasons.

Preparing for elementary school, why did it take less time than expected?

I had a clear preference for children. (40s, Female)
I'm sure the kids will do their best. (40s, Female)
I was able to make it with what I had at home. (40s, Female)
It was a public elementary school, so it didn't take much work to prepare for it. (40s, male)
I thought it would take more time to write my name on my belongings, but it was easier than I thought. (50s, female)

The children's cooperation, clear preferences, use of items from home, and the simplicity of a public school made preparation for school entry go more smoothly than anticipated.

summary

In this issue, we conducted a survey on "Preparation for Elementary School Entrance" and presented the results of the survey.

In total, more than 20% of respondents said that preparing for elementary school took longer than expected.

The most common reasons for the time it took to prepare were that "naming the items took more time than expected," "there were many handmade items," and "necessary items were added later.

On the other hand, there were also opinions that the process went smoothly, such as "the child's preferences were clear" and "there was little preparation at the public elementary school," indicating that the situation varies depending on each family's circumstances.

In light of these voices, we recommend using the Internet for efficient information gathering and shopping when preparing for school entry.

In particular, school bags offer a wide range of design and function options and are easy to compare, making it easy to find one that meets the child's needs.

By checking online early, you will avoid being out of stock or rushed for time at the store and will have more time to prepare.
