In this verification experiment, "Hagumane" will be provided to households raising children through the "Maternal and Child Health Record Book" application*1 provided by our group company, Maternal and Child Health Record Book Co. In addition to providing information on basic financial knowledge and household budget management, "Hagumane" will help parents improve their children's financial literacy by assisting them in applying for a bank account.

Participating municipalities include Kuwana City, Mie Prefecture (Mayor: Tokyu Ito), Wake Town, Okayama Prefecture (Mayor: Keisuke Ota)*2 , Misato Town, Kumamoto Prefecture (Mayor: Yasuhiro Ueda), and financial institutions*3 including Ogaki Kyoritsu Bank, AEON Bank, Joyo Bank, Chugoku Bank, Hiroshima Bank, Fukuoka Bank, Juhachi Shinwa Bank, Kumamoto Bank, and Japan Post Bank. The Ogaki Kyodo Bank, Aeon Bank, Joyo Bank, Chugoku Bank, Hiroshima Bank, Fukuoka Bank, The Eighteenth Shinwa Bank, Kumamoto Bank, Japan Post Bank, etc.

Background of the Demonstration Experiment

For households raising children, financial issues such as financing their children's education and planning for their future lives are close to home, and acquiring financial literacy is essential for enhancing the financial stability of the family. On the other hand, in a survey*4 conducted by MHFG of households raising children, when asked where they obtain information on money necessary for raising children, the most common answer was "Internet (search, online articles, etc.)" at 74.61 TP6T, followed by "SNS" at 55.01 TP6T. The next most common answer was "Internet (search, online articles, etc.)" at 74.61 TP6T, followed by "SNS" at 55.01 TP6T. The "local government offices and websites" and "financial institutions such as banks and securities firms" were only 22.11 TP6T and 4.41 TP6T, respectively, indicating that parents are biased in the information they are exposed to and rely on information that is easily accessible.

Against this backdrop, on Tuesday, August 26, 2012, we will launch "Hagu-Mane," a financial portal site designed to solve the financial concerns of households raising children*5 . Hagu-Mane" aims to improve the financial literacy of households raising children by providing "Hagu-Mane" as a gateway to the site.

This time, with the aim of improving convenience for residents and financial literacy, a demonstration experiment using "Hagumane" will be conducted with local governments and financial institutions. As a first step, Kuwana City in Mie Prefecture, Wake Town in Okayama Prefecture, Misato Town in Kumamoto Prefecture, Ogaki Kyoritsu Bank, Aeon Bank, Joyo Bank, Chugoku Bank, Hiroshima Bank, Fukuoka Bank, The Eighteenth Shinwa Bank, Kumamoto Bank, Japan Post Bank, etc. will participate in this project to verify changes in financial awareness and behavior of households with children through use of "Hagumane".
