With the rate of men taking maternity leave rising steadily year after year, XTalent Corporation (read: CROSS TALENT; head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; president: Tatsuya Uehara) conducted a survey on the actual situation regarding men taking maternity leave.
The survey revealed that while "taking" childcare leave is becoming more common, many men are facing difficulties in balancing work and family life after returning to work. The survey also revealed the characteristics of work environments that create difficulties in balancing work and family life, as well as the actual situation of men who consider or change jobs in order to balance work and childcare.

As for when they felt "familiar with men taking maternity leave," there has been an upward trend since 2019, indicating that men are becoming more familiar with taking maternity leave every year.
85% took "more than 1 month" maternity leave



The largest percentage of respondents (38.61 TP6T) chose "1 month to less than 3 months" as the acquisition period. This was followed by "3 months to less than 6 months" (22.81 TP6T) and "6 months to less than 12 months" (20.21 TP6T).
86% have "felt difficulty in balancing work and home life" after taking maternity leave


The most common reasons for "having felt difficulties in balancing work and family life" after taking maternity leave were: "Long working hours are the norm (considered good)" (58.81 TP6T), "Excessive workload" (501 TP6T), and "No male boss who understands how to balance work and childcare" (35.31 TP6T (35.3%)" was given as the third most common reason. Other responses included, "The level of understanding is so low that I feel as if childcare ends when maternity leave ends," and "Various things in the world are not based on the assumption that men will take care of children," indicating a lack of understanding of men's involvement in childcare both within and outside the company.
96% "performed or considered changing jobs" because of the difficulty of balancing the two.

26.5% have changed jobs, 34.31 TP6T are specifically active or plan to do so, and 13.71 TP6T would like to do so if they eventually have the opportunity.
