Supporting a Balance between Work and Childcare with Welfare Benefits. Terada Warehouse Co.
- The following is content from the press release -

The "milkmagic" automatic milk maker developed by BetterDays is the first product in Japan* that complies with the milk preparation guidelines of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare and the World Health Organization (WHO) and safely prepares milk at 70°C at the touch of a button. Since its launch in September 2024, the product has been offered to individual customers through social networking services and through displays and sales at "Tsutaya Home Appliances+", and now the company is launching a rental service for corporate customers as a form of employee benefit program. This will promote support for employees on maternity or childcare leave by companies and contribute to reducing the burden of childcare on society as a whole.
*Surveyed by BetterDays Inc.
Among the various childcare burdens, milk preparation requires preparing hot water, measuring the formula, and pouring the water precisely, which is a big burden for new parents who are not used to it. Especially for newborns, it is necessary to prepare milk every three hours, day and night. In addition to the burden of the work itself, it is also a mental burden to impatiently prepare milk while the child is hungry and crying.
Thus, the automatic milk maker "milkmagic" was born with the goal of alleviating the burden of working households that are busy with childcare in addition to work.

Social Background and BetterDays Initiatives
The environment surrounding childcare in Japan is changing dramatically with the declining birthrate and the increase in dual-earner households. According to the 2022 edition of the "White Paper on Health, Labor and Welfare: Securing Human Resources to Support Social Security" (2022), in 2021, there will be 12.47 million dual-earner households and 5.82 million full-time housewife households, with the proportion of dual-earner households reaching 70%. In 2000, the percentage of "dual-earner households" was approximately 50%, indicating that the structure of society has changed significantly. In this social environment, the government is strengthening its support for childcare through such measures as the "Campaign to Promote Male Childcare Leave" led by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare and the "Tax Reform to Promote Wage Increases," and companies are required to develop new systems and initiatives to support their employees' childcare.
Under these circumstances, BetterDays has launched a "milkmagic" rental service for corporate customers in order to reduce the burden of childcare on working parents through corporate welfare programs. Through this initiative, BetterDays aims to help create an environment in which more companies can balance work and childcare.
Prior to the full-fledged launch of the service, we implemented a preliminary introduction at Terada Warehouse Co.

Case Study: Terada Warehouse Co.
As part of our welfare program, we introduced a corporate rental system for the "milkmagic" automatic milk maker in December 2024. In a previous in-house survey of employees who had taken maternity or childcare leave, we received comments such as "anxiety about getting enough sleep and time for myself," "anxiety about balancing work and childcare," and "anxiety about cooperation from family members in childcare. In response to these comments, we began lending "milkmagic," and have received positive responses such as "I felt that the burden of childcare was reduced" and "I felt that the company supports childcare.
The "milkmagic" service is available not only to employees taking maternity or childcare leave, but also to male employees whose spouses have given birth.
Through this program, we will reduce the burden of childcare for employees who are on leave or balancing work and childcare, and support their families so that they can enjoy healthy and comfortable days, both mentally and physically.

A new form of benefit package that helps employees balance work and childcare
Parents raising children are concerned about "getting enough sleep and time for themselves," "balancing work and childcare," and "lack of family cooperation in childcare. According to a survey by the National Center for Child Health and Development, fathers need to limit their work-related time (working hours plus commuting time) to 9.5 hours or less in order to devote time to housework and childcare. However, the survey results show that about 691 TP6T fathers with preschool children spend more than 10 hours and about 361 TP6T fathers spend more than 12 hours, revealing the difficulty of balancing work and family life.
(National Center for Child Health and Development)
In light of this situation, BetterDays has launched a corporate rental service for "milkmagic" as part of its corporate welfare program. Through this program, employees raising children can reduce the burden of the time-consuming chore of "making milk" and spend more time interacting with their families and taking a break. We also believe that the convenience of "making milk at the touch of a button" will contribute to the participation of men in childcare and the sharing of childcare responsibilities. The service is increasingly being used not only by female employees on maternity or childcare leave, but also by male employees, and we aim to contribute to the creation of a society where employees can balance work and childcare, and where the company supports childcare so that they can face childcare with greater peace of mind.
BetterDays will continue to use its products to support those who have taken maternity or paternity leave.
