HighFlyers launches demonstration test of a monitoring system that uses behavior-recognition AI to detect unusual behavior of children and prevent problems before they occur.

- The following is content from the press release -

High Flyers, Inc. operates 11 licensed nursery schools in Chiba Prefecture. https://www.kiitos-kids.net (Head office: Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture; Representative Director: Takashi Hyuga; hereinafter referred to as "High Flyers") will begin a demonstration test in June of a monitoring system that uses the AI security system Azira to detect abnormal behavior of children and prevent problems before they occur.

Aims of AI Application in Nursery Schools

  • Detects abnormal behavior of children
  • Creating an environment that prevents problems before they occur
  • Reinforcement of safety management in the nursery

In childcare facilities where children are taken care of, managing the safety and health of the children is a top priority. By introducing this AI security system, we believe that we can prevent human error, which occurs when the human eye alone cannot keep track of the situation.

If AI can determine behaviors that are likely to lead to falls and injuries, as well as situations where fights and troubles are likely to occur, we expect that this will lead to safer childcare sites, which both parents and caregivers are seeking.

We would be happy if the demonstration test we are about to conduct will help the entire childcare industry move in the right direction, even if only a little.

Demonstration Test Overview

Implementation period: June 17 - June 21 (tentative)
Location:Keetos Child Care Sakuragi
Camera: 1 camera on the ceiling of the 4.5 year old room

Role of each company

We are the closest to our customers in the Canon Group in Japan and provide the best solutions to their issues by combining Canon's expertise in imaging technology and information technology.
  • High Flyers: Provide demonstration test sites, explain initiatives to parents
Since we have never used Azira on children under 6 years old, we will test how the AI analyzes children's behavior on the subject.

System Overview

  1. Recognizes the behavior of people in the camera image and can detect specific behaviors.
Detection of behavioral changes using AI-based posture estimation technology

Comments by Minako Hinata, General Director of Keetos

In daycare centers, children's curiosity can sometimes cause them to behave in ways that are beyond the expectations of their caregivers. Infants and toddlers are at an age where it is difficult to predict that their own behavior will immediately lead to injury or accident. Therefore, we decided to conduct a demonstration test of a system in which AI detects dangerous behavior and notifies caregivers. By combining the eyes of our childcare providers with this system, we feel that it has the potential to prevent human error and further strengthen the safety of our preschool children.

It is also hoped that this system will not only greatly assist the caregivers who are responsible for keeping the children safe, but will also provide peace of mind to the parents who leave their children in the care of the school.

By introducing new technologies to childcare, we aim to continue to provide a safer and more secure childcare environment.

Future Development

High Flyers believes that the introduction of an AI security system will make a significant contribution to enhancing safety management at daycare centers. We are considering implementing the system as a proactive adjunct to create a safe environment for parents, staff, and the children themselves to use the facility.
