(Headquarters: Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture; Representative: Mami Obe) will begin distributing "Doremi Friends Web Lesson App" on January 19, 2024 (Friday), allowing children to learn how to read music while having fun with characters, even in their early childhood.
Not only will the ability to read music facilitate playing an instrument, but it is also expected to encourage interest in music, even in children who are not learning to play the piano.
Background of the development of the application
1、Actual state of children's use of digital devices and changes in parental awareness
According to a survey by the Information and Communication Policy Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the percentage of children using digital devices at home is increasing, with approximately 70% of children aged 0-3 and 50% of children aged 4-6 using smartphones at home.
As for the purpose of use, more than 40% of preschoolers use educational applications such as language, number play, and music, and data show that many children are exposed to digital devices for learning from an early age.
Furthermore, the most common reason given by parents for allowing their preschool children to use digital devices was "when parents are busy with household chores," at approximately 60%. With the increase in dual-earner households, smartphones and tablets are proving useful in the home, as they allow children to study alone without the need for a parent or guardian to take care of them. This led Arden Music Center to develop the "Doremi Friends Web Lesson App," which allows children to learn elements of music alone using a smartphone or tablet.
2, Effectiveness of tablet learning and children's motivation to learn
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has conducted a study of the effects of tablet learning on elementary school students and found that scores increased in all subjects. The study also examined whether tablets are effective in motivating students to learn, and concluded that all students showed an improvement in their motivation to learn. (*2)
We developed the app because we felt that learning the elements of music through a game-like experience using the app, rather than studying through paper media, would effectively motivate children to learn.

Learning effects of using characters
The Doremi Friends characters appear in our original piano introduction method "Doremi Friends. By assigning a character to each note of the do-re-mi-fa-sora syllabary, we hope to make music feel more familiar and friendly. This is based on the concept of "animism," which sees objects as having life in them, and the experience of interacting with anthropomorphic sounds broadens children's worldview and helps them think independently.
According to a survey conducted by our company in May 2023, 94 out of 134 students who used the Doremi Friends teaching materials said that they were able to enjoy the "music and friends" feeling by becoming familiar with the Doremi Friends characters.
By learning with the characters in the "Doremi Friends Web Lesson App," it is expected that more children will develop an emotional connection with music and come to love music.
The "Doremi Friends Web Lesson App" to learn to read sheet music easily and quickly.summary
A major hurdle for children playing the piano is reading music smoothly.
The Doremi Friends Web Lesson Application includes three types of games: "Oto no Kaidan no Renshu," "Onpu no Renshu," and "Piano Renshu" to develop the ability to read music step by step.
Oto no Kaidan no Renshu" is a game in which players look at a staircase score with DOROMI FRIENDS characters on it and try to find the note (character) that fits on the empty staircase. In order to read the score, instead of reading the notes one by one, it is necessary to look at the notes as a group and instantly determine the direction and width of the progression from the starting note. Using "Stairway Score®" developed by Mami OHBE, president of Arden Music Center, you can visually understand the sequence of notes and acquire the sense of reading efficiently and quickly.
In "On-Pu Renshu," this is answered with the notes on the 5-line staff, which leads to reading the music on the score.
In addition, in "Piano Norenshu," you will be able to match the notes on the 5-line notation with the keyboard positions. When the correct key is tapped, the color of the key changes and a sound is played. Even if you do not have a piano at home, you can prepare for playing the piano by actually playing the notes and checking the results.
In this way, the game is designed so that players can learn the necessary elements for reading music notation without difficulty by gradually moving up from stairway notation to 5-line notation to keyboard notation. Each game offers three levels of problems: easy, normal, and hard, so you can play with a wide range of players according to their ages and levels.
