(Headquarters: Osaka; President: Masashi Sugimoto) has long been involved in the development and sales of eye drops and other products, as well as in activities to raise awareness about eye health among all generations. We believe that children, who will be the leaders of the next generation, need to be more aware of the need for eye health, especially since contact with digital devices is inevitable with the spread of smartphones, games, and other devices, and with the increasing use of tablets per person for learning. With the start of summer vacation, we would like to provide you with a summary of our educational information and content on children's eye health, which we hope you will learn about now that you are concerned about the amount of time they spend in contact with their digital devices.
1. "Rohto Eye Care Educational Material" (for elementary school educators) to learn about eye health through a good relationship with tablets
The website dedicated to "Rohto Eye Care Materials:https://www.rohto.co.jp/sustainability/well-being/eyecare/eyecareprogram/
Since June 2021, we have been offering this program free of charge with the aim of encouraging "behavior change" so that children become aware of the importance of their eyes and enjoy learning "eye care skills," a lifestyle habit necessary to deal with tablet learning and other digital devices. The materials have been used by approximately 1,500 schools, organizations, and individuals, including those in collaboration with local communities, and have received positive feedback such as "children have started to think about their own eyes" and "I want to use this every year because it is fun and educational. In July 2023, the educational materials were renewed with the addition of an animated video produced under the supervision of an ophthalmologist to help children enjoy and become interested in the necessity of taking care of their eyes from an early stage.
2. "What you need to know about myopia" (for parents), a website providing information on myopia in children

The prevalence of myopia is increasing all over the world, and in Japan, children's vision is also declining, with recent statistics showing that more than 60% of high school students, 50% of junior high school students, and 30% of elementary school students have vision of less than 1.0 (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, "School Health Statistics Survey" for fiscal 2009). We provide parents with easy-to-understand information about myopia, which not only causes inconvenience in daily life but may also lead to visual impairment depending on the condition.
3. Visual acuity measurement application "AImirun(R)" (for parents)
AImirun page:https://jp.rohto.com/learn-more/eyecare/aimirun/
This is a simple vision measurement application (for iOS) produced under the supervision of an ophthalmologist, with the aim of making it possible to measure eye sight on a daily basis and to notice changes as soon as possible. It can be used at home as a preliminary check before visiting an ophthalmologist.
Reference] Survey report, "More than 60% of parents are as concerned about their children's "eyesight" as they are about their "academic ability."
On the occasion of "Eye Protection Day" on October 10, 2022, we conducted a survey on the actual status of parents' awareness regarding their children's eyes. In a survey conducted on parents whose first child is in the first grade of elementary school through the third grade of junior high school, more than 60% of parents are as concerned about their child's "eyesight" as they are about "academic ability," while about one in five parents say they are "not doing anything" to prevent their child's eyes from getting worse.
