WonderPhi Inc. (headquartered in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; Kei Kawashima, President; hereinafter "WonderPhi"), in cooperation with NTT DoCoMo, Inc. (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Motoyuki Ii, President; hereinafter "DoCoMo"), will offer a distance learning service "Wonderbox for docomo", a distance learning service based on STEAM education, which is attracting worldwide attention, starting with the July 2023 issue. The service will deliver a new kind of learning that fosters the ability to think and create on one's own, rather than the acquisition of exhaustive subject knowledge.

Fostering thinking and creativity through STEAM education, which is attracting worldwide attention

STEAM education is an educational policy that emphasizes the five domains of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. The goal is not to memorize knowledge, but to foster thinking, creativity, and non-cognitive skills by working on cross-disciplinary projects. As an education that fosters the ability to survive in an era of change, STEM education is attracting attention around the world, with 40 states in the U.S. adopting education standards that follow the STEM education reform trend, and Singapore establishing a specialized organization to incorporate STEM education into public education in 2014.
In Japan, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has proposed that all students need to learn STEAM education, which is the foundation for thinking, and is promoting programming education as a compulsory subject, among other things. In "Wonder Box for docomo," we will work on a variety of teaching materials across the STEAM field.

A wide variety of teaching materials to broaden the child's interests and develop his/her likes and strengths

Due to the revision of the Courses of Study in 2020, there are more and more questions that require thinking skills for junior high school, high school, and university entrance examinations. Wonder Box for docomo" also covers content related to studying for entrance examinations, but it does not aim to achieve a high score in the examinations.
What is important is for children to repeatedly experience the joy of trial-and-error and accomplishment during the 4-10 year-old period, when their sense of value for learning is being nurtured. We provide a variety of digital and analog materials that allow children to learn in a "playful" way and bring out the likes and strengths of each individual child.

Educational materials that have been proven to be effective, so you can give them to your children with confidence.

Think Think," a teaching material for thinking skills in the area of Math included in Wonder Box for docomo, has been proven to be effective for academic achievement, IQ, and non-cognitive ability in Math through a demonstration experiment conducted in cooperation with JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) and the Cambodian Ministry of Education.

Collaboration between major carriers and educational tech companies to make new learning more accessible for living through times of change.

Wonderfi, an education tech company that has a proven track record in thinking skills education with its "Think Think" educational app with 2.5 million users in 150 countries, has been offering its own STEAM distance learning program, Wonderbox, since 2020.
By offering "Wonder Box for docomo" together with docomo, Japan's largest carrier, which has been supporting the growth of Japanese children through programs that support child-rearing, we will deliver "new learning" to Japanese children to survive in this era of change.
We are also considering plans for a system to allow customers to actually experience the "Wonder Box for docomo" STEAM educational materials at docomo stores, as well as joint implementation of STEAM education awareness events.
