Supporting the "Postpartum Care" project for declining birthrate with sensor technology

Global Electronics Corporation (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President: Kiichi Matsuda), developer and seller of the Siesta BeBe infant body movement sensor, has provided one unit each of the product to three postpartum care facilities for monitoring. Through this initiative, Global Denshi will support the spread of body movement sensors for infants to facilities that provide postpartum care, which is being promoted as a comprehensive measure for reducing the birthrate, in order to strengthen safety measures and reduce the workload of midwives engaged in the program.

Postpartum care" programs to support mothers and children mentally and physically within a year after childbirth became law in 2019, and from April 2021, it became an obligation for each municipality to make an effort to provide this service. There are overnight, day service, and home visitation types, and they are provided mainly at hospitals, midwifery hospitals, and postpartum care centers commissioned by local governments. The program is expected to prevent anxiety and postpartum depression caused by so-called "one-operator childcare" in which the mother has no one to rely on, and is positioned as a project to counteract the declining birthrate. On the other hand, postpartum care facilities have been facing issues such as a shortage of personnel to provide care and safety measures for infants, especially to strengthen monitoring of infants while they are sleeping.

Traditionally, mat-type baby sensors have been widely used at medical institutions to watch over newborns and infants, but postpartum care centers and midwifery hospitals have not used baby sensors very often because they are mainly used for a short period of time after delivery and to provide care to the mother.

This monitoring service was initiated by a postnatal care facility that was considering strengthening safety measures in the midst of an increase in the number of postnatal care users, and asked us about our mat-type product, which has a proven track record in nursery schools, infant care centers, and maternity hospitals. This led us to ask, first of all, what kind of mat-type infant body movement sensor is used? How would it be used in the field? We will collect and verify the opinions of our customers under actual use and reflect them in our products.

Global Electronics Corporation is committed to supporting healthcare professionals and midwives involved in postpartum care to reduce their workload by using sensor technology to solve the problems and concerns that postpartum care facilities currently face.
