1. interest in social issues and education for children
In February 2021, eSmiley conducted an original "Questionnaire on Social Issues and SDGs (Number of valid responses: 200)" among parents with children, and 43.51% of the respondents answered that they are "highly interested in social issues and SDGs. When asked, "Do you feel familiar with social issues and SDGs in which you are not interested? When asked, "Do you feel familiar with social issues and SDGs that you are not interested in?" 64.41 TP6T of the parents who were highly interested in social issues and SDGs answered "It is difficult to feel familiar with them" and "I am not able to do anything at present.
In another survey conducted around the same time, "Questionnaire on Children's Education (Number of valid responses: 191)," we asked about children's education on social issues, and 42.41% of all respondents (TP6T) answered that they were "highly interested in education on social issues for children," while only 42.41% of all respondents (TP6T) answered "yes" to the question "Do you provide education on social issues for your children? Do you provide education on "social issues" to your children? On the other hand, 72.81 TP6T of the parents who were highly interested in education on social issues answered that they were not able to do so. This result indicates that even parents who are highly interested in social issues and the SDGs are not able to provide education on these issues due to lack of knowledge of means and methods.
2. about SDG picture books
We believe that it is important to first create opportunities for children to learn about changes and events in the world, as they will live in this age of diversity. In this context, the themes of social issues and SDGs that children will someday face may be difficult to teach them unless they are involved, and parents themselves may not have a good understanding of these issues.
We thought that by making picture books about social issues and the SDGs, which are often perceived as difficult, we could make them simple and easy for children to understand and have more interest and empathy for them.
The target age range for this picture book is from 5 years old to early elementary school students who can enjoy the story, but older children and adults can also enjoy and learn from the content.
3. picture book co-creation partners and themes
